Morgan Pressel

Wins First LPGA Major

If you were only 18 and won your first major on the LPGA tour what would you do? Kiss the trophy and then jump in the pond - what else? That's exactly what Morgan Pressel did after winning the Kraft Nabisco Championship on April 1. For a long time it looked like Suzann Petterson had it all wrapped up, but it turned out to be April's fool for her, after she folded under the pressure toward the end.

I'm sure young Morgan will never forget April 1, 2007 at Rancho Mirage, California. By winning she became the youngest major champion in LPGA Tour history. She ended up closing with a 3-under par 69 as everyone around her self-destructed.

Pressel played her final 25 holes over Mission Hills without a bogey, finishing the round with a 10-foot birdie putt that looked as though it would be only good enough for second place.

Morgan broke down in tears as the shock and euphoria of winning a major 10 months after graduating high school overwhelmed her. "Oh my God! Oh my God!" was all she could say when a reporter tried to interview her.

Then keeping with tradition at the Kraft Nabisco, she jumped into the pond at the 18th green with her caddie and grandmother, Evelyn Krickstein.

Herb Krickstein, her grandfather watched with a big smile. I also smiled and celebrated as I watched it all in my living room. I've been rooting for Morgan a long time. Now I have the pleasure of posting her first win on my site. Great job, Morgan. I am so proud.
